Five Mile Lookout

Journal entry Monday February, 13 2006.  A new day dawns in the most spectacular way.

Dave padlocks the overhead gate and we're off for a days adventures.

Skiing through the heather on this rock hard snow we don't even leave a track.

You can see some of the trees are burned from a fire not too long back.    Over the years the Forest Service has kept the butte pretty clear so that the lookout at 5 mile has good visibility.  This probably saved the lookout from what it once used to prevent.

The snow is so hard we quickly reach warp speed on our skis.  Joe stops for a short break.  After a few hard hits we just walk on the iced over surface.

Back at the intersection a while later you can see the road we're going to take off on for the day.

From that road a jeep track heads off to the northeast.  The day warms and the skiing is perfect.  We ski a good long time through this young forest.
