Journal Entry Day 2: We get out on the upper lake and start our journey across the main lake heading up the Big Beaver Arm.
We check out the shore looking for campgrounds. Here's a place we returned to for firewood later.
Here's some of that wood we came back for later.
We find another cache farther up shore. No we wer,nt being attaked by a marmot, that's Dave's wooly head in the foreground.
Camp sweet camp.
The Beaver Arm of the lake is in a bay to the left of this picture.
Exploring the Big Beaver River. Since the portage is considerable we may have been one of the first boats ever up this river.
A crystal clear bay in the Big Beaver Arm.
A forest service bridge over the Big Beaver.
The Minnesota III on a trail during the return portage from the Big Beaver river. For days trips we just put the third seat back in this boat and all 3 of us paddled it, leaving the kayak back at camp. Weighing less than 50 pounds empty and with a tremendous carrying capacity this boat served our needs very well. She proved dry in the lake's chop and Dave even attracted a few elusive fish while fishing from the middle seat.
